Dr. Roozbeh Safavieh
Founder and CEO
Dr. Roozbeh Safavieh is the founder and CEO of Sensoreal Inc. He completed his PhD in Biomedical Engineering at McGill University in 2013. Shortly after founding Sensoreal, he led the company’s early work in microfluidic technologies, including a 2014 project with the Canadian Space Agency to develop a microfluidic device for detecting biomarkers in space. Building on the success of this project, Sensoreal later shifted its focus toward practical diagnostic tools for environmental and food safety applications, particularly marine toxin detection. Under his leadership, the company has advanced the ToxinAlert™ platform, including rapid lateral flow assays for detecting shellfish toxins such as PSP, ASP, and DSP. He is also focused on building collaborative partnerships with regulatory laboratories, research institutions, and industry stakeholders to improve access to faster and more practical toxin screening technologies.
Maarij Baig
Head of Strategy and Operations
Bio: Maarij Baig is the Head of Strategy at Sensoreal, bringing over a decade of experience in the life sciences to bridge the gap between scientific innovation and commercial success. A proud alumnus of the University of Waterloo, his career is defined by his leadership in translating complex analytical technologies from the lab into market-ready solutions that address critical societal needs in public health and food safety. At Sensoreal, Maarij leads the global commercialization of ToxinAlertTM, our groundbreaking platform for rapid marine toxin testing. In his role, he focuses on the intersection of operational excellence and market needs—ensuring Sensoreal’s internal processes are agile, scalable, and up-to-date. He actively engages with global partners and industry stakeholders, working closely with them to ensure the company’s diagnostic solutions deliver tangible, real-world value.
Dr. Daud Khan
Vice President of Assay Development
Bio: Dr. Daud Khan is a bioengineer (PhD from George Mason University, USA) and biotechnology professional who currently serves as Vice President of Assay Development at Sensoreal in Montreal. His work sits at the intersection of scientific innovation, product development, and practical deployment, focusing on creating toxin detection tools that are scientifically robust, practical, cost-efficient, and accessible for real-world use. In this role, he has contributed to the development, optimization, validation, and commercialization of rapid diagnostic platforms for environmental and food safety applications, while helping guide technical operations, regulatory-aligned development, and external collaborations.

Our key product lines is Toxin Alert, a series of kits designed for the rapid detection of toxins in shellfish to protect public health and support the seafood industry.
We specialize in detecting the specific biotoxins that accumulate in mussels, oysters, clams, scallops, and other shellfish species. Our platform covers the major threats, including:
- Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning (PSP): Rapid testing for saxitoxins.
- Amnesic Shellfish Poisoning (ASP): Precision detection of domoic acid.
- Diarrhetic Shellfish Poisoning (DSP): Monitoring for okadaic acid.
