Biochemist/Research Scientist

Sensoreal is a start-up company developing point-of-care diagnostic technologies for infectious diseases. In May 2019, Canada became the first country to perform a rapid blood test at the International Space Station using Sensoreal’s technology. Our goal is to now adapt our innovative technology to solve diagnostic challenges here on Earth.
We are looking for a biochemist or assay engineer with academic or industry experience to lead assay development activities related to microfluidics and medical devices. The environment is challenging and fast-paced, with the potential for project launch and expansion within the year.
Specifically, you will:
Lead assay development for a clinical-grade assay platform
Source, validate, and preserve reagents for use in diagnostic tests
Perform statistical analysis of results and write test reports
Develop test methods and protocols, and execute experiments
Work with patient samples to perform clinical validation experiments
Supply chain management for biological and chemical reagents
Collaborate with engineers to optimize the assays on the microfluidics platform
Assist in writing government grants and proposals
Desired Qualifications and Experience
3+ years of relevant work experience (academic or industrial lab) in chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, biophysics, bioengineering, or a related field
Strong academic record in relevant field
Hands-on wet lab experience, particularly with basic biochemistry protocols
Proficiency in immunoassays, such as ELISA
Experience working with microfluidics, immunoassays, medical devices, or microarrays is an asset
Knowledge of clinical approval processes for class 2 medical devices, including CLIA certificate or waiver is an asset
Knowledge of marine biotoxins and environmental testing is helpful
Good organizational and time-management skills
Flexible and proactive approach to daily tasks with attention to detail, ability to work independently
Experience working in small dynamic R&D teams
Strong technical communication/writing skills
Fluency in English is essential. Proficiency in French is an asset
Legally authorized to work in Canada
