Design & Development Engineer II

Sensoreal is a start-up company developing point-of-care diagnostic technologies for infectious diseases. In May 2019, Canada became the first country to perform a rapid blood test at the International Space Station using Sensoreal’s technology. Our goal is to now adapt our innovative technology to solve diagnostic challenges here on Earth.
We are looking for an experienced design and development engineer with academic or industry experience to assist with electrochemical sensor development and integration into microfluidic diagnostic devices. The environment is challenging and fast-paced, with the potential for project launch and expansion within the year.
Specifically, you will:
Design experiments to characterize electrochemical sensors on the microfluidics platform
Lead a team of junior engineers and interns
Independently drive and manage R&D activities according to key objectives
Develop manufacturing methods to improve integration of sensors with microfluidic devices
Develop and document scalable manufacturing processes
Manage projects with OEMs, subcontractors, and other partners
Assist with statistical analysis of results and write test reports
Develop test methods and protocols, and execute experiments
Assist in writing government grants and proposal
Desired Qualifications and Experience
3+ years of relevant work experience (academic or industrial lab) in electrochemistry, biochemistry, electrical engineering, biophysics, bioengineering, or a related field
Strong academic record, preference for a PhD or a Post-doc in relevant field
Hands-on wet lab experience, particularly with basic immunoassay, surface engineering, and biosensor protocols
Experience working with immunoassays, electrochemistry, or plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition is an asset
Experience working with microfluidics, immunoassays, medical devices, or microarrays is an asset
Knowledge of clinical approval processes for class 2 medical devices, including CLIA certificate or waiver is an asset
Knowledge of proteomics and host immune response biomarkers is helpful
Experience in R&D or commercialization projects
Good organizational and time-management skills
Flexible and proactive approach to daily tasks with attention to detail
Experience working in small dynamic R&D teams
Flexible and proactive approach to daily tasks and ability to work independently
Strong technical communication/writing skills
Fluency in English is essential. Proficiency in French is an asset
Legally authorized to work in Canada
