Microfluidics Engineer

Job Type: Full-time, permanent

Start: January 2022

Sensoreal is a start-up company developing point-of-care diagnostic technologies for infectious diseases. In May 2019, Canada became the first country to perform a rapid blood test at the International Space Station using Sensoreal’s technology. Our goal is to now adapt our innovative technology to solve diagnostic challenges here on Earth. 

We are looking for an engineer with academic or industry experience in microfluidics to increase our design and development capacity. You will participate in and eventually lead R&D activities related to the commercialization of microfluidic devices. The environment is challenging and fast-paced, with the potential for project launch and expansion within the year.

 Specifically, the engineer will: 

  • Participate in device prototype development, fabrication and characterization

  • Innovate and execute new design ideas, including developing new IP

  • Develop and document scalable manufacturing processes for new products

  • Manage projects with OEMs, subcontractors, and other partners

  • Assist with statistical analysis of results and write test reports 

  • Develop test methods and protocols, and execute experiments 

  • Assist with supply chain management (source and manage suppliers)

  • Assist in writing government grants and proposals

 

Desired Qualifications and Experience

  • 2+ years of relevant work experience (academic or industrial lab)

  • Hands-on experience in lab, particularly with 3D printing or other rapid prototyping methods

  • Experience in R&D or commercialization projects

  • Experience working with microfluidics, immunoassays, or medical devices is an asset

  • Good organizational and time-management skills

  • Attention to detail

  • Flexible and proactive approach to daily tasks

  • Experience or interest in working in small, dynamic R&D teams

  • Ability to work independently

  • Strong technical communication/writing skills

  • Interest in business development

  • Proficiency in English and French is an asset
