This journal article presents a comprehensive single-laboratory validation of the Sensoreal ASP Alert™ lateral flow assay (LFA) for the rapid detection of domoic acid (DA) in bivalves. By evaluating the assay against the gold-standard LC-UV reference method across 288 spiked and naturally contaminated samples, the study demonstrates robust performance, high sensitivity (0.983), and zero false negatives relative to the regulatory limit of 20 mg/kg. Validated under AOAC and ISSC guidelines, the assay proved highly rugged across varying operational conditions and showed no cross-reactivity with other major marine biotoxins. Using the SensoRead™ scanner, the system provides a semiquantitative “Low/Medium/High” classification to deliver proactive, early-warning risk assessments. This peer-reviewed validation confirms that the Sensoreal ASP Alert LFA offers an accurate, user-friendly, and field-deployable screening solution to support shellfish harvesters, food business operators, and regulatory laboratories in ensuring global seafood safety.
